Day 1: Tuesday 1st September, 2020 (MT,D)
And they’re off and racing! Today we depart on the big road trip to Birdsville, Queensland, stopping at Merriwa for morning tea and Dubbo for lunch (at own expense) with an afternoon rest break at The Big Bogan, Nyngan. We then travel onto Bourke for our evenings rest.
Accommodation: Darling River Motel, Bourke NSW (Motel style accommodation)

Day 2: Wednesday 2nd September, 2020 (B, MT, L, D)
This morning, after we enjoy a full cooked breakfast, we travel north along the Mitchell Highway towards the Queensland border town of Barringun for a rest stop and onto Eulo for lunch prepared by your on-board chef. We then travel deeper into the Queensland outback to Toompine for a well-earned cold beverage at the Toompine Hotel before arriving at Quilpie, our overnight stop. A gourmet dinner will be served under the outback stars and then settle in for the evening at Channel Country Tourist Park. Why not try one of the many outdoor artesian spas here in the park!

Day 3: Thursday 3rd September, 2020 (B, MT, L, D)
Today, after another big breakfast, we journey further into western Queensland stopping at Windorah for morning tea and a roadside lunch at Betoota, the middle of nowhere, before arriving early afternoon in the Diamantina township of Birdsville! The town comes alive this week with racing, wacky fashion, boxing, music and entertainment, attracting people from all over Australia. The Birdsville Races is an iconic event, now into its 138th year, bringing together people to have a great time. On arrival, your crew members will set up camp at the Birdsville Caravan Park while you explore the town and the many attractions. A visit to the Birdsville Hotel is a must. Pre-dinner drinks and finger food will be served around the open fire, followed by a 5 star dinner prepared by your on-board chef.

Day 4: Friday 4th September, 2020 (B, MT, L, D)
The first day of racing is here! Today’s racing is open from midday, but before the big event our coach will visit “The Big Red”, a very large red sand dune just west of Birdsville. Come and watch the 4wds battle it out to reach the top and take in the great views from the crest. We then make the short journey back to camp where lunch will be awaiting us in the caravan park before heading straight out to the famous Birdsville Race Club for an afternoon of fun. Shuttle buses run all day back to town where your three course dinner awaits you on your return. Enjoy the nightly entertainment the town has to offer, all within walking distance of our camp.

Day 5: Saturday 5th September (B, MT, L, D)
After breakfast, there is a chance to visit the South Australian border just south of Birdsville on our coach. We then head back to town for some free time before lunch at the camp and then it’s off to the final day of races. Wear your wackiest outfits and party all day! Shuttle buses will be running throughout the day and night to return you to camp where another dinner under the stars will be provided. Enjoy more nightly entertainment around town before settling in for the evening.

Day 6: Sunday 6th September, 2020 (B, MT, L, D)
Today, after a hearty breakfast, we pack up camp and travel to Windorah for a hamburger lunch at the Windorah Hotel. Then onto Thargomindah, the Bulloo River town for our overnight stop and a country style roast dinner
Accommodation: Oasis Motel and Explorers Caravan Park (Cabin and Motel Style Accommodation)

Day 7: Monday 7th September, 2020 (B, MT, L, D)
We leave Thargomindah and venture back down the Mitchell Highway into Cunnamulla, visiting the Cunnamulla Fella monument and morning tea in the park. Lunch today will be served from Morrall’s Bakery in Bourke and we will arrive late afternoon at Nyngan Outback Motor Inn. Dinner will be served at the Nyngan RSL Club across the road.

Day 8: Tuesday 8th September, 2020 (B, MT)
Our final leg of the journey, we leave Nyngan after breakfast and make our way back through Gilgandra for a comfort stop and morning tea, then into Merriwa for lunch (at own cost) arriving back home in Newcastle and Port Stephens late afternoon, completing your outback Queensland experience of, The Birdsville Races 2020.
